This section of the old CPR rail corridor begins at the northern boundary of the Slocan Valley watershed and lies totally within RDCK Area H North. The Official Community Plan for the area has specific goals related to Summit and Slocan lakes and to “identified wildlife corridors and areas with high wildlife and fisheries habitat values” such as Bonanza Creek (see management plan proposal).
Rec Sites and Trails BC and the RDCK Area H director have requested that local residents have an opportunity to express support for this management plan proposal as a condition of its moving forward. They have approved the use of a household poll of residents from Enterprise Creek to Summit Lake, including New Denver and Silverton, which will be conducted from June 17-30.
With endorsement by local residents, Rec Sites and Trails BC has indicated it will proceed with the interagency review required for official trail designation and with consultation with the RDCK and local First Nations. With official trail designation, a local registered non-profit society will be formed to partner with RSTBC and to engage residents and user groups in stewarding the ongoing maintenance and development of the trail.
