Q. When are grizzly bears likely to be on the rail trail and why?
A. Grizzlies may be encountered along the trail between north Hills and Summit Lake from May to early July when the bears descend from alpine dens to feed on new plant growth along the trail. Warning signs are now posted at either end of this area and will be removed in early July. For information on safe travel in bear country from Parks Canada and BC Parks, see the following links:

Q. Why is the Rosebery-Summit Lake rail trail corridor important to birds?
A. Gary Davidson responds: Wetland/riparian habitat is by far the richest habitat for birds, both in species diversity and population density. Summit Lake Marsh and Bonanza Creek are the only significant areas of such habitat in Regional District Areas H and K.
